From March 8 to 23, 10 Cameroonian athletes will be competing in Ghana in their respective disciplines to honor the green, red, and yellow colors.
Among the Cameroonian athletes present in Ghana for the African Games, seven live in Cameroon and three abroad, including Eseme Emmanuel (sprint specialist), Nora Atim Moni (discus and shot put thrower), and Angounou Linda (400m specialist).
Cameroon’s hopes for medals rely mainly on wrestling, handball, and volleyball. The country is expected to perform well in volleyball, positioning itself as one of the teams to beat after winning gold at the 2019 African Games in Morocco.
In wrestling, the Cameroonian team has not spared any effort to make a good impression during the competition. According to Jean Calvin Penda Mba, the national coach of women’s wrestling, Cameroonian wrestlers have spent the past few days revising key techniques, such as “double leg takedown for some, hip throw with head for others, or side leg takedown for others.”
The handball players are also ready to shine. Cameroon has excelled on the African scene in recent years and the girls are determined to repeat their success at the African Games. To achieve this, they had to train rigorously, with a good selection of local players during their stay in Cameroon. The team has also expanded with the arrival of the Cameroonian delegation in Ghana, where players from Congo and France have joined the group.
The 13th edition of the African Games will take place from March 8 to 23, 2024 in Ghana.
