Emmanuella Marie Rose Lalèyè has given Benin its first two medals at the 2023 African Games in Accra. The athlete won two gold medals in arm wrestling.
Double success for Emmanuella Marie Rose Lalèyè at the 13th African Games in Accra 2024. The Beninese athlete won two gold medals in arm wrestling in the 65 kg category, thus offering Benin two consecutive victories. These performances allowed the Beninese national anthem to resonate twice on the highest step of the podium in this new discipline.
However, other disciplines had less positive results for Benin at these games. The U20 Cheetahs were eliminated from football after a defeat against Ghana, while Celtus Dossou-Yovo was eliminated in the first round of judo. In tennis, despite the victory of Sylvestre Monnou and Eliaza Honfoza, Delmas N’tcha lost after an ankle injury.
But Benin can still win other precious metals in this competition. Basketball and athletics are also on the program for the Beninese men’s and women’s teams, who are expected to defend the national colors in the upcoming rounds.
