Kenneth Omeruo, the central defender for Kasimpasa of Turkey, has expressed his confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to defeat any team in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON). Omeruo conveyed this confidence ahead of the crucial Round of 16 match between Nigeria and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. Following a training session in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Omeruo spoke to the media officer for the Super Eagles, Babafemi Raji, about his team’s mindset going into the upcoming match.

Omeruo, who has faced Cameroon six times, winning three, drawing two, and losing once, emphasized the team’s focus and determination. He also expressed faith in the coaching staff to provide them with the best tactics to secure a victory. As an AFCON winner with the Super Eagles in 2013, Omeruo exuded confidence and belief in their ability to succeed.

The upcoming match against Cameroon holds particular significance, as the Super Eagles will aim to secure their third consecutive victory over their opponents in the AFCON. Their last encounter in the knockout round was in 2019, where a brace from Odion Ighalo and a goal from Alex Iwobi led Nigeria to a 3-2 win. In 2004, Nigeria also emerged victorious with a 2-1 win, with Jay Jay Okocha’s well-taken freekick playing a crucial role in the outcome.

Omeruo’s optimism and confidence in the team’s abilities reflect their determination to overcome any obstacles they may face in the tournament. The Super Eagles are focused on sticking to their game plan and delivering a strong performance in their upcoming matches. As they prepare to face Cameroon once again, they are fully committed to giving their all and securing a victory. With the experience and winning mentality that Omeruo brings to the team, the Super Eagles are poised to take on their opponents with confidence and determination.
