The Lagos State Government is ensuring that residents have ample opportunities to watch the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the creation of 20 live viewing centers. This initiative, known as #LagosIsAGoal, aims to provide a comfortable and enjoyable platform for residents to catch the live matches of the tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
Gigantic TV-size screens have been erected at the 20 designated viewing centers located across various areas of the state including Surulere, Lagos Island, Yaba, Epe, Oworonshoki, Badagry, Ketu, Ajegunle, Alimosho, Agbado-Oke Odo, Ojo, Festac, Ijegun, Agege, Mushin, Ikorodu, Ojokoro, Abesan, Igbobi-Sabe, and Lekki. These venues have already seen large crowds since the tournament’s first game between the hosts Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau.
The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has emphasized that the aim of these viewing centers is not only to provide residents with the opportunity to enjoy live matches but also to show support for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, as they compete in the tournament. The Super Eagles are looking to secure their fourth AFCON title during their group matches.
The Super Eagles will be returning to the field on Thursday, 18 for their second Group A game against Côte d’Ivoire after their first game resulted in a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea. These viewing centers provide an opportunity for fans to come together and show their support for the Super Eagles while enjoying the live matches.
With the creation of these viewing centers, the Lagos State Government is ensuring that residents have access to the excitement and thrill of the 2023 AFCON, while also fostering a sense of community and support for the Nigerian national team.
