Ademola Lookman scored two goals for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. The victory secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. The game took place at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, where Cameroon had previously won the first of their five AFCON titles. Nigeria, who had lost to Cameroon in the 1984 final, extended their unbeaten streak against them to five competitive matches.

Semi Ajayi thought he had scored for Nigeria in the ninth minute, but a VAR review ruled it as offside, denying them the opening goal. However, Oumar Gonzalez’s mistake allowed Victor Osimhen to set up Lookman for Nigeria’s first goal. Lookman later scored a second goal in injury time, securing the win.

Nigeria will face Angola in the quarter-finals, who defeated Namibia earlier in the day. The Super Eagles will aim to continue their winning streak in the tournament.
