Nollywood actress Eberechukwu Bayray Nwizu recently revealed that a Brazilian Butt Lift, BBL, has become a prerequisite for actresses to secure movie roles from some producers in the Nigerian movie industry. Speaking on TVC’s Wake Up Nigeria program, Nwizu expressed her concern about the increasing emphasis on physical appearance over raw talent in the industry.
While acknowledging the improvement in the industry’s capital and infrastructure, Nwizu lamented the decline in recognition of raw talent, with producers favoring social media influencers they believe can attract a larger audience for their projects. She highlighted the shift in the criteria for actresses, citing examples from the past where factors like fairness, height, and physique were considered, but now BBL has become a new standard.
Nwizu also emphasized the need for balance, acknowledging that producers have to make a profit but urging for a fair representation of talent in the industry. She encouraged aspiring actors to leverage streaming platforms and create their own content as an alternative route to gaining recognition, without conforming to the unrealistic standards set by some producers.
In her words, “We don’t have any excuses anymore. There are always going to be those who say, you have to do this to be in my movie.” Nwizu’s remarks shed light on the evolving landscape of the Nigerian movie industry and the challenges faced by actors in the pursuit of meaningful roles. She encouraged actors to take control of their own careers and not feel compelled to undergo cosmetic procedures to fit the expectations of certain producers.
Overall, Nwizu’s insights highlight the changing dynamics in the Nigerian movie industry and the need for a more inclusive and talent-focused approach in casting decisions. Her message serves as an inspiration for aspiring actors to carve their own path and create opportunities in a rapidly evolving industry.
