In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, popular actor and comedian, Babatunde Bernard Tayo, also known as Baba Tee, shared his reasons for supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the last presidential elections. Baba Tee revealed that he campaigned for Tinubu because he directly benefited from Tinubu’s free education initiative in Lagos State.
Emphasizing that he campaigned for the former Lagos State governor without receiving any financial compensation, Baba Tee stated, “I campaigned for [Bola] Tinubu because I benefited from his free education, and security during RRS, nobody gave me money.” He recounted the challenges of insecurity that plagued Lagos before Tinubu’s tenure, noting the impact it had on his own family. According to Baba Tee, Tinubu’s administration brought about significant improvements in security, transforming the city and making it a safer place to live.
Reflecting on the transformation of Lagos during Tinubu’s governance, Baba Tee shared, “We used to suffer from a lot of insecurity back then. Hoodlums would send letters that they are coming to terrorize a particular area and they would indeed come. Nightlife in Lagos then was hellfire. But when Tinubu came, Lagos was reformed. My mum, who was a petty trader, was also a victim of the robbery in Lagos then. Tinubu actually eradicated insecurity in Lagos. And because of that, I supported him in the presidential election out of my own free will.”
Baba Tee’s firsthand experience with the positive impact of Tinubu’s governance motivated his decision to actively support the candidate during the presidential election. His testimony sheds light on the influence of Tinubu’s initiatives in Lagos and the deep personal connection that influenced Baba Tee’s political allegiance.
Overall, Baba Tee’s disclosure provides insight into the complex and multifaceted reasons behind individual political support, highlighting the impact of tangible policies on the lives of citizens.
