The Togolese government will provide funding to the various lists competing in the legislative and regional elections scheduled for April 29. A total envelope of 650 million Fcfa has been unlocked, with 325 million allocated to each type of election.
This commitment is part of the law n°2013-013 of June 7, 2013 on the public funding of political parties and electoral campaigns, which provides for state aid to support political activities and electoral campaigns. The allocation modalities are specified by decree in the council of ministers.
The Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralization, and Development of Territories, Colonel Hodabalo Awaté, emphasized that President Faure Gnassingbé has set by decree the overall amount of public funding for legislative and regional elections at 650 million Fcfa.
Regarding the distribution of this amount, 65% is divided equally among all lists of candidates, while the remaining 35% is allocated proportionally to the votes obtained, with a condition of 10% of the votes cast to benefit from this share.
The government ensures that all necessary measures are taken to guarantee that political parties, party coalitions, and independent candidates receive the amounts that are due to them.
