Burkina Faso: Archbishop of Ouagadougou grateful to the Muslim community of Bendogo for their contribution to building a chapel

Ouagadougou, April 7, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Monseigneur Prosper Kontièbo, consecrated the St. John Chapel of Bendogo on Sunday in the St. Charles Lwanga Parish of Wayalghin. He took the opportunity to thank the local Muslim community for their contribution to the construction of the holy place.

“We blessed the water, opened the doors of the chapel, named the church, anointed the altar, walls, and columns of the church,” declared Archbishop of Ouagadougou after the blessing of the St. John Chapel of Bendogo.

“These rituals are not just for the beauty of the eyes because the Holy Church proposes this consecration ritual so that we know that now God has officially taken possession of this house,” emphasized Monseigneur Kontièbo.

For the parish priest of St. Charles Lwanga Parish of Wayalghin, Sylvère Pengdwendé Yaméogo, with this blessing, the chapel has become a church, meaning it has all the characteristics and it is now possible to celebrate all sacraments there because the presence of God is now real through the tabernacle.

“In this house of God, many will receive baptism, the body of Christ. Here, marriages will be celebrated, the end of earthly life and entry into eternal life. Here, you will receive forgiveness for your sins,” indicated the Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Prosper Kontièbo.

He also congratulated all those who contributed to the construction of this church, from acquiring the land to its construction.

According to Prosper Kontièbo, among these people is Ladji Tasséré Ouédraogo, who contributed to the land acquisition.

He also congratulated the Muslim community that joined the Christian community in building this church.

In his words, Ladji Tasséré Ouédraogo recalled that God created all men equal.

“We have the same origins from Noah through Ishmael and Isaac to the prophets Jesus and Mohammed (peace be upon them). Moreover, the holy sites of Islam are at three places namely Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem, Muslims and Catholics pray in this third site,” he added.

He continued by wishing that God strengthens their faith and keeps the different communities united in unity, social cohesion, and love.

“The Gospel of this day tells us about Thomas’ encounter with the resurrected and when the Lord appeared to the disciples for the first time, Thomas was not present,” mentioned Mgr Kontièbo.

He continued that like Thomas, all those who do not come to church will have difficulty seeing the miracle of the resurrection.

He therefore invited the faithful to frequent the church and make it a place worthy of respect to give it all its dignity and sacredness.

“Have a family spirit and be united around your pastors to face the challenges that come to you and may you benefit from the graces that will flow from this chapel,” he wished the faithful.

On this first Sunday of Easter, where we celebrate divine mercy, the archbishop took the opportunity to wish that the Lord pour out his mercy on Burkina Faso, which is in great need.
