The announcement was made on March 13, 2024, by the Central African president, Faustin Archange Touadéra.
After training 2500 new gendarmes between 2018 and 2024, the Central African Republic intends to strengthen its workforce by training 500 young people in the special forces of the Gendarmerie and the Police. The announcement was made by the head of state during the graduation ceremony of 885 gendarme students at the National Gendarmerie School. “But our efforts will not stop there, as we are truly committed to enhancing the operational, tactical, and professional capacities of our defense and security forces to ensure the integrity of the national territory and maintain public order, a necessary condition for the economic recovery of our country,” declares Faustin Archange Touadéra.
He explains that his desire to direct a security policy follows the “major military-political crisis triggered in 2012, which shook the Republic’s institutions and destroyed the operational capacities of our defense and security forces, leading, among other consequences, to the general deterioration of civic spirit, the authority of the state, and most importantly, the loss of confidence and lack of respect for holders of public authority.”
Therefore, the Security policy, in which the main guidelines should be detailed in various implementation plans, including the capacity-building and development plan, the overall resizing and redeployment plan of the Defense and Security Forces.
Faustin Archange Touadéra also recalls that, as part of the bilateral cooperation between the Equatorial Guinean and Central African peoples, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea has trained 110 young Central Africans in both the Gendarmerie and National Police.
