Many countries that support Somaliland have praised the efforts to amend the electoral laws in Somaliland.
Countries such as England, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden have praised the significant steps taken by Somaliland to finalize the electoral laws.
A joint statement issued by the international community supporting democracy in Somaliland said, “It is an important step taken towards enhancing democracy, and it greatly contributes to the transparency of elections.”
“We see the amendment of the electoral laws as crucial in consolidating Somaliland’s democratic principles and ensuring the fairness of elections,” the statement also said.
They also urged all election stakeholders to work together to ensure that the upcoming elections in Somaliland on November 13, 2024, are conducted in a free and fair manner.
Somaliland’s President Muse Bihi Abdi recently signed the electoral law after consultations with parliamentarians. The law was amended following a long period of disagreement.
It is hoped that these steps will resolve the electoral dispute and pave the way for conducting this year’s elections smoothly with the support of the Presidency and organizations within Somaliland.
