According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), air transport was the one that grew the most during the last year in the country, compared to 2022. The number of passengers at national airports and aerodromes grew by about a fifth (19.1%), surpassing growth by sea (7.9% more passengers) and land (7.2%).

These numbers are in line with data from the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC), which announced in February that domestic passenger traffic has increased to 500 thousand and international traffic exceeded two million passengers (arrivals and departures).

Air transport also saw the most growth in terms of cargo: “the number of aircraft movements increased by 11.9%, the tonnage of cargo handled grew by 8.4% and the tonnage of mail handled increased by 7.5% compared to 2022,” announced the INE.

In ports, “the number of ships handled increased by 2.6%, the tonnage of goods handled rose by 7.5% and the number of 20-foot containers handled increased by 0.8%”.

Regular urban collective passenger transport is an important mobility method on each of the nine inhabited islands, and the total kilometers traveled grew by 7%, even though the total number of hours worked decreased by 7.8%.

The index of passengers transported per kilometers on various routes grew by 0.9% and the number of seats offered by buses increased by 1.4% compared to 2022, concluded the INE.
