The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, issued a strong statement on Tuesday condemning the actions of former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr. Osita Okechukwu. The party accused Okechukwu of consistently launching insults and baseless allegations against leaders of the party in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, particularly targeting the leader of APC in the South East and governor of Imo State, Sen Hope Uzodimma.
In a press release signed by Chief Mike Ezeanyanwu, the Publicity Secretary of APC Enugu State, the party described Okechukwu as an attention-seeking political opportunist who lacks relevance and connection with his political base in Udi local government area of Enugu State. The party highlighted Okechukwu’s suspension by the state chapter of APC for working against the party’s candidates during the 2023 general elections.
The statement went on to discredit Okechukwu’s claims of being a founder of APC, labeling him as a jobless individual who used gossip, propaganda, and media hype to gain favor with former President Muhammadu Buhari. The party also criticized Okechukwu for his past involvement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and his lack of humility despite being let off the hook.
According to the Enugu APC, Okechukwu has been recruited by disgruntled politicians within and outside the Southeast to tarnish the reputation of Gov Uzodimma, who has been a key figure in strengthening APC in the region. The party called on the public and its members to disregard the allegations and insinuations made by Okechukwu and his associates, emphasizing Gov Uzodimma’s contributions to the party’s growth and development in Enugu State.
The APC warned Okechukwu and his sponsors to refrain from further insults and attacks on Gov Uzodimma, asserting that the party is focused on building solid political structures under Uzodimma’s leadership. The party criticized Okechukwu’s alleged opportunistic behavior, accusing him of seeking appointments in Abuja without actively participating in the party’s activities at the grassroots level in Enugu State.
Overall, the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress reaffirmed its support for Gov Uzodimma and condemned Okechukwu’s actions as detrimental to the party’s unity and progress in the Southeast region. The party pledged to continue working towards strengthening APC in Enugu State under Gov Uzodimma’s guidance, emphasizing the importance of loyalty and dedication to the party’s values and objectives.
