The ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone of the University of Loango, 20 kilometers from Pointe-Noire, was presided over by the Head of State, Denis Sassou N’Guesso. The project will be built on a 280-hectare plot of land and will eventually offer training in the fields of oil and gas.
This university will be the first institution in the country to train professionals in the oil and gas sector. The work has been entrusted to two Chinese companies and will last for 29 months, with a total cost of 48 billion CFA francs.
The medium-term program for this university includes the construction of buildings: the Higher Institute of Oil, Gas, Mines, and Energy; the Higher Institute of Maritime Sciences and Techniques, Transport, and Logistics; the Higher Institute of Agronomy, Forestry, and Ecology; and the Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts. In addition to these four institutes, there will be four faculties and two higher schools. The capacity will be 20,000 students.
