Keve and Millennium Atlântico were the banks with the most ATM machines installed in the multicaixa network.
The Angolan province of Luanda has the highest number of bank agents and access points, with a representation of 159,2490, followed by the provinces of Huambo and Benguela.
This information was provided on Thursday in Lunada by the director of the Department of Regulation and Organization of the Financial Sector of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Cândido Pina, during the presentation of the “Framework and Balance of Compliance with Notices 4/22 and 18/22.”
“In turn, Malanje, Moxico, and Huíla are the provinces with the lowest number of bank agents, while Cuando Cubango, Cunene, and Lunda Sul have lower levels of access points,” said Caindo Pinta, who spoke during the conference on “Expansion of Financial Services.”
Regarding the distribution of ATMs, the responsible continued, there was an 11% growth in 2023 compared to the year 2022, going from 3,194 to 3,548. “Keve and Millennium Atlântico were the banks with the most ATMs installed in the multicaixa network, representing an increase of 109 and 34%, respectively.
At the provincial level, the spotlight falls on Luanda and Benguela, with an increase of 13% and 19%. Luanda holds a share of about 60% in the network of ATMs throughout the country,” he said. The financial literacy index, he advanced, stood at 25%, indicating a moderate level among the Angolan population.
The World Bank financial sector specialist, Veronica Trujillo, calls on the Angolan government to gather regular data on the location of all types of access points, at least at the municipal level, and develop a program to progressively increase the number of access points.
In municipalities without access points, Veronica Trujillo advocates for the creation of incentives for the installation of bank branches or ATMs, with minimum performance standards, as well as coordinating with relevant stakeholders to address obstacles that go beyond the financial sector (telecommunications coverage or lack of electricity).
