According to the prosecutor of the Republic Rabarison Rakotondrasoa, chief of the Antsirabe prosecutor’s office, three procedures have been initiated to elucidate the matter. The first investigation concerns the circumstances of the death of Bacome Andonilanto, the source of the riot. The second is about the attack on the gendarmerie office followed by theft of material and arson. The last one is related to the escape of a prisoner from the central prison of Mandoto who participated in this act of rebellion.Fifty-four people have been arrested, according to the prosecutor who spoke with journalists from Antsirabe the day before yesterday. The prisoner, women, and children are among these suspects. This number changes according to new facts from the investigations. A first appearance was scheduled for yesterday. The prosecutor insisted on the origin of the revolt. According to him, a verdict was issued by the correctional court against Bacome Andonilanto on June 19, 2018. He was accused of voluntary harm. He was sentenced to one year in prison, a sentence accompanied by damages amounting to one million one hundred thousand ariary. Dissatisfied with the judgment, both parties appealed to the Court of Appeal, which upheld the imprisonment sentence but increased the damages. In December 2023, the plaintiff and his bailiff, assisted by police intervention forces, went to Ivory, in the commune of Vinany, in the district of Mandoto, where the accused lived. They were supposed to carry out a public auction of his two oxen. Ultimately, this could not take place because Bacome did everything to prevent it. The bailiff drew up a report of what happened and left. For refusing to execute a court decision, Bacome was summoned several times but did not respond. A transmission was then sent to the gendarmerie of Ankazomiriotra. They came early in the morning to arrest him on Saturday, February 17th.On that day, according to the gendarmes, he tried to take the weapon of the deputy commander of the brigade and flee. For this reason, he was shot. His family and members of the fokonolona brought his body to the gendarmerie. They set fire to the brigade. Weapons were stolen. Among them, a MAT49 submachine gun has already been recovered, according to Colonel Sammy Randriampeno, commander of the gendarmerie group of Vakinankaratra.
