Maternal deaths in Uganda: Govt calls for early antenatal care

Uganda’s health ministry has urged expectant mothers to seek early antenatal care, maintain a balanced diet and avoid traditional birth attendants to reduce complications during childbirth.

Speaking at the launch of the national blood donation drive over the weekend, Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine said early antenatal care allows health workers to detect infections and anaemia and provide supplements such as folic acid and iron.
