Authorities in Uganda’s Mpigi District have agreed to lift a temporary ban on sand mining and transportation in Kituntu Sub-county after operators pledged to contribute to the repair of roads damaged by heavy trucks.
The decision followed a meeting last week between district officials, sand miners and other stakeholders after complaints over damaged roads, dust, reckless driving and alleged revenue losses linked to the sand mining industry.
