An estimated 700,000 people enter the labour market annually from universities and tertiary institutions across the country, joining the scramble for only roughly 90,000 available jobs. Makerere alone graduated over 9,000 students recently.

According to the 2024 national census, youth unemployment among Ugandans aged 18 to 30 had reached 16.1%, and 41% of that age group are not in employment, education, or training (NEET).
