No fewer than 350,000 children have been vaccinated against diphtheria in Borno State following a joint campaign by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the state Ministry of Health.

The exercise targeted children up to 14 years old in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, one of the areas hardest hit by the outbreak.

The first round of the campaign, held from February 9 to 15, 2026, reached about 490,000 children—surpassing the initial target of 387,000.
