96th Nominations for Oscars Announced

Actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid revealed the nominees for the 96th Oscars® live from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater, with the nominations being announced at 5:30 a.m. PT followed by the remaining nominations at 5:41 a.m. PT. All of the nominees will be posted on the official Oscars website, www.oscar.com. Nominees are chosen by members of the Oscars’ 18 branches, with actors nominating actors, composers nominating composers, and so forth. Additional committees decided on the nominations for Animated Feature Film, International Feature Film, and Live Action Short Film. Voter participation this year was greater than ever with members from a record 93 countries submitting their ballots. Eligible members can vote for winners in all 23 categories from February 22 through February 27. The 96th Oscars will be held on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be broadcast live on ABC and in over 200 territories worldwide.

The event’s nominees include Bradley Cooper for “Maestro”; Colman Domingo for “Rustin”; Paul Giamatti for “The Holdovers”; Cillian Murphy for “Oppenheimer”; and Jeffrey Wright for “American Fiction” in the Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role category. For the Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, the nominees include Sterling K. Brown for “American Fiction”; Robert De Niro for “Killers of the Flower Moon”; Robert Downey Jr. for “Oppenheimer”; Ryan Gosling for “Barbie”; and Mark Ruffalo for “Poor Things”. The nominees in the Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role category consist of Annette Bening for “Nyad”; Lily Gladstone for “Killers of the Flower Moon”; Sandra Hüller for “Anatomy of a Fall”; Carey Mulligan for “Maestro”; and Emma Stone for “Poor Things”. Emily Blunt for “Oppenheimer”; Danielle Brooks for “The Color Purple”; America Ferrera for “Barbie”; Jodie Foster for “Nyad”; and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for “The Holdovers” are the nominees for the Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role spotlight.

Additional categories include Best Animated Feature Film, Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Directing, Best Documentary Feature Film, Best Documentary Short Film, Achievement in Film Editing, Best International Feature Film, Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling, Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score), Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song), Best Motion Picture of the Year, Achievement in Production Design, Best Animated Short Film, Best Live Action Short Film, Achievement in Sound, Achievement in Visual Effects, and the Adapted and Original Screenplay categories.
