On March 30, 2019-2024, exactly five (5) years ago, the Congolese musician Lutumba Ndomanueno Simaro Masiya passed away.
On this sad day, the music world remembers the renowned singer, guitarist, and composer Lutumba Simaro, who was able to write and compose songs of great richness, full of imagery, depth, and life.
As the leader of the musical group Bana OK, Lutumba Simaro passed away at the age of 81 in 2019 in Paris, France. Throughout his life, this artist stood out for creating successful hits that are true poems, such as “Fifi nazali innocent”, “Mabele”, “Verre cassé”, “Maya”, “Ebale ya Zaïre”, and many others.
Probably the best author of Congolese music, Lutumba was distinguished by his sensitivity, depth, and songwriting, while maintaining a rare humility and modesty in the Congolese music world.
It is worth noting that the poet Lutumba Simaro had mentioned in a conference organized by young people from Barumbu that once he finished writing a song, he would submit the text to the critique of a simple music-loving neighbor before bringing it to rehearsals. The artist appreciated the wisdom and life philosophy of his neighbor, and would thus modify his lyrics based on his advice.
Many political figures paid tribute to this artist in Kinshasa, where his body was repatriated at the end of April 2019. The sitting president, Félix Tshisekedi, laid a wreath in front of the mortal remains of this poet at the Palais du peuple.
