Bla, March 13 (AMAP) Twenty-two people were injured, with no loss of human life and significant material damage in a traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, around 6 p.m. on National Highway 6 (RN6), on the Bla-San axis, in the rural commune of Bla, as confirmed by AMAP.
The 28-seat minivan belonging to the Yangasso fairground operators with license plate G 5171 M4 ended up in front of the prefecture, not far from the police station, after veering off the asphalt 100 meters before overturning. All the passengers on the vehicle were traders from Bla leaving the Yangasso market, which takes place every Tuesday.
The provisional toll reports 22 injuries, no loss of human life and very significant material damage.
On site, the police and other bystanders rushed to the scene of the accident to provide assistance to the victims. Thanks to the determination of Commissioner Youba Gori Touré’s team, the civil protection team, and other volunteers, all the victims were rescued.
The teams from the chief physician of the Bla referral health center and the private clinics mobilized to care for the injured. Two ambulances from the Bla Referral Health Center, the rescue team from Bla, were responsible for evacuating all the victims to the referral health center.
According to driver Aguibou SAMAKE, “truthfully, I was driving at over 80 km/h and the vehicle automatically changed direction to the right. I tried to brake but it didn’t work, and we ended up overturning on the ground. It was a mechanical breakdown, the steering itself gave out. My speed was also influenced by the breaking of the fast, as it was almost 6 p.m. and several passengers were already complaining that we were late and the fast was almost over.”
The response teams included the Bla police station, the medical team from the Bla health center, the mayor of the rural commune of Bla, and the civil protection teams.
After receiving care, no victims were evacuated to Ségou; no deaths have been reported at this time.
According to the commissioner, an investigation will be opened to shed light on the real causes of this accident.
