The Huduma Centre has brought government services closer to the residents of Laikipia East with the opening of its 53rd branch in the area. The fully equipped centre is set to open its doors to the residents of Makutano, offering a wide array of government services in one location.
The launch of the new branch comes as the Huduma Kenya program celebrates 10 years since its inception in Kenya. The program was created with the aim of facilitating the provision of various government services at a single unit, known as the Huduma Centre. This merger of public services into one location allows Kenyans to easily access a range of essential services.
The first Huduma Centre was launched in Nairobi in 2013, and since then, it has expanded to offer services such as the issuance of driver’s licenses, national identity cards, NSSF and NHIF registration and claims, student loan application and repayments, welfare group registration, issuance of police abstracts, single business permit and stamp duty assessment, and various other services. Under the leadership of Moses Kuria as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, the Huduma Centre has undergone various transformations.
In a recent development, judiciary services have been introduced in six pilot Huduma Centres, including Nairobi GPO, City Square, Makadara, Kibra, Eastleigh, and Kiambu, and will be rolled out to the rest of the 52 centres across the country. The judicial desks at these centres will be manned by Judiciary staff, offering services such as filing of new civil cases, filing documents of existing cases, requests for and issuance of various legal documents, general case inquiries, e-filing support, payments of fines and deposits, and virtual court support.
In addition to this, training for National Police Officers attached to all 52 Huduma Centres at the National Police College main campus in Kiganjo has commenced. The training is aimed at improving customer service excellence and is the first of its kind for Huduma Kenya, focusing on front-line officers.
To further enhance its services, Huduma Kenya has introduced a new contact centre number, 1919, making it easier for residents to access information and support. This development reflects Huduma Kenya’s commitment to providing accessible and efficient government services to the people of Kenya.
Overall, the expansion of the Huduma Centre and the introduction of new services demonstrate the government’s efforts to bring essential services closer to the people and improve the overall delivery of public services in Kenya.
