Last Thursday, Huduma Centre issued a call to Kenyans to visit their centres and collect their unclaimed documents. The notice revealed that there are a staggering 226,247 documents that remain uncollected, including 122,027 identification cards (IDs), 51,773 birth certificates, and 52,447 Smart Driving Licenses. The notice emphasized that these documents are ready for collection and urged the public to visit the centres to claim them.
In addition to the call for document collection, Huduma Centre marked a significant milestone with the opening of its 53rd branch in Laikipia East. The new branch, located at Makutano, will provide residents with access to various government services and information.
The services offered at Huduma centres are wide-ranging and include the issuance of driver’s licences, national identity cards, and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). Other services provided are National Health Insurance Fund registration and claims, HELB Student Loan Application and Repayments, Registration of Welfare Groups, issuance of police abstracts, single business permit, stamp duty assessment, and more.
Since Moses Kuria assumed the role of Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Huduma Centre has undergone several transformations. On Monday, another major development was announced as judiciary services went live in six pilot Huduma Centres located at Nairobi GPO, City Square, Makadara, Kibra, Eastleigh, and Kiambu. CS Kuria highlighted that the judicial desks at these centres will be manned by Judiciary staff and will offer a range of services, including filing of new civil cases, filing documents of existing cases, requests for and issuance of various court documents, general case inquiries, e-filing support, payments of fines, deposits, and virtual court support.
The CS also indicated that the judicial services will be rolled out to the rest of the 52 centres across the country. Additionally, he announced that the judicial services will later be extended to all Huduma Jitume Centres in the 290 constituencies, as they are constructed under a partnership with Members of Parliament, the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, and the Ministry of Public Service.
In a separate initiative, Huduma Centre launched a training program for National Police Officers at the National Police College main campus in Kiganjo. The training, which commenced on the same day as the judicial services announcement, aims to enhance customer service excellence and is the first of its kind for Huduma Kenya, targeting front-line officers. The training, which runs for 10 days, from January 29 to February 9, 2024, is aligned with the Huduma Kenya Customer Excellence training programme, emphasizing a customer-centric and experiential delivery approach.
Furthermore, on Tuesday, Huduma Kenya introduced a new contact centre number, 1919, for the public to reach out for assistance and information. The notice about the new contact centre number was shared on their official social media handles, encouraging the public to use the convenient and easy-to-remember number for their queries.
Huduma Centre’s multifaceted initiatives demonstrate the commitment to streamline and enhance public service delivery in Kenya. From document collection appeals to the expansion of services and training programs, Huduma Centre continues to play a crucial role in improving access to government services for the citizens of Kenya.
