A new initiative has been launched in 24 African countries by the United National Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to provide digital solutions to women and youth, including Kenya. The program aims to reach 5,000 individuals in Kenya, with a recent digital training program, Digital Skills for Women and Youth in Africa, taking place in Nairobi.

The training, which was attended by the Japanese ambassador to Kenya, Ken Okaniwa, and the head of UNITAR Chisa Mikami, is designed to empower women and youth to address their day-to-day challenges using digital solutions. Elizabeth Ndungu, director of Digital Economy at the Ministry of ICT, highlighted the importance of exposing youth to global innovation programs to benefit from the government of Japan.

In addition, President William Ruto and Cabinet Secretary of Ministry of Information Communications and Technology Eliud Owalo and Digital Economy PS John Tanui recently launched a new digital skills library at Kaiboi National Polytechnic in Nandi County. The initiative, known as Jitume Lab, is part of Konza Technopolis and aims to provide youth with access to digital services, skills, and opportunities for job creation.

The Ministry of ICT emphasized the importance of providing equal access to quality education for all children through increased support to learning institutions. The lab in Kaiboi National Polytechnic is one of 117 centers established across the country to provide students with digital opportunities and employment prospects.

During the event, a young man named Brian Kipchumba shared his success story with the President, revealing that he earns Sh27,000 weekly by performing tasks using Remotask, an online platform.

The overall goal of these initiatives is to bridge the digital divide and provide opportunities for women and youth to thrive in the digital economy. With the support of government and international agencies, the future looks promising for Kenyan individuals seeking digital skills and opportunities.
