Bandari, the 2009 champions, suffered a surprising defeat in the preliminary round of the Mozzart Bet Cup, losing 1-2 to lower-tier side Bungoma Stars at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma. The Division Two side, Bungoma Stars, took the lead in the 22nd minute courtesy of striker Tekkwo Derrick, holding onto the lead until half-time.
