The maiden Mechanic Champions League, sponsored by Hyde Energy, is set to kick off on April 21 with 16 teams battling it out in four groups to determine the best team among automobile mechanics in Lagos. The seven-week league aims to strengthen relationships within the mechanic community and celebrate their talent and dedication.

Dimeji Edwards, the Chief Executive Officer of Hyde Energy, emphasized that the competition is not just about football but also about showcasing the mechanics’ important status within the community. By bringing mechanics together through sports, the league aims to provide them with a memorable experience and shape perceptions.

The teams were divided into four groups during the draw ceremony supervised by Edwards and Moruf Egberongbe, the Lagos State chairman of the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA). Games are scheduled to take place every Sunday, starting from April 21, until the final on May 26.

Egberongbe expressed his gratitude to Hyde Energy for their vision and commitment to supporting technicians. He believes that the league will raise the bar for professionalism and excellence within the automotive industry. The winners of the league will receive N2 million worth of Hyde Energy products, while the runners-up will be rewarded with N1.3 million and N700,000 worth of products respectively.

In addition to team prizes, individual awards such as the Most Valuable Player, Golden Boot, Safest Hands, and Best Coach will also be recognized with N250,000 worth of goods each. The team with the best-designed promo will receive products worth N300,000.

Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, commended Hyde Energy for their initiative and collaboration with NATA and Lagos State. He expressed excitement about the league fostering collaboration among different organizations to make society a better place, and encouraged more initiatives like this to be emulated.

The league promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent and camaraderie within the mechanic community. With prizes, awards, and recognition up for grabs, teams are gearing up to give their best performances on the field as they compete to be crowned the champions of the Mechanic Champions League.
