The 19th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games are set to kick off in Abuja on April 21, with over 1,500 athletes from 13 companies in the oil and gas sector ready to participate in the week-long event. The chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Dr Ifenyinwa Mojo-eyes, unveiled the Games at the Reiz Continental Hotel in the Central Business District of Abuja. The participating companies in this year’s fiesta include NNPC, Shell, Chevron, Total Energies, PTI, SEPLAT, NCDMB, NLNG, OANDO, NMDPRA, ExxonMobil NUPRC, and ARADEL.
Dr Mojo-eyes announced that there will be 13 sports featured in this year’s edition, including athletics, golf, football, basketball, eight-ball pool, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and chess. Additionally, volleyball, squash, and badminton will also be part of the lineup. The aim of the Games is not only to promote sportsmanship among industry players but also to emphasize the importance of wellness and productivity in the workplace.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Empower wellness, ignite productivity,’ highlighting the significance of a healthy workforce in driving productivity and reducing medical expenses. Dr Mojo-eyes stressed that the Games provide a platform for connectivity within the industry while promoting a culture of health and fitness among employees.
