The Minister of Social Affairs, Solidarity and Humanitarian Action, Fatimé Boukar Kossei, launched the Overview of Needs and Humanitarian Response Plan 2024 on March 11, 2024.
This overview and response plan for 2024 are being launched for the mobilization of funds due to the multidimensional and prolonged humanitarian crisis exacerbating in Chad, where 6 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, compared to 7.6 million in 2023.
According to the humanitarian coordinator Violette Kakyoma, urgency is key when it comes to saving lives. She emphasizes the commitment of all national and international humanitarian communities to support Chad in these actions.
Given the increasing humanitarian needs each year in sectors that require long-term response with constantly increasing financial requests, it is imperative to change the way of working to reduce vulnerabilities and make populations more resilient to shocks, said Minister Fatimé Boukar Kossei.
She highlighted that this plan is the result of joint efforts of technical services of the state and humanitarian partners to better plan and coordinate their humanitarian activities within an emergency framework aligned with Chad’s development programs. She stated, “I must recall the political will of the highest authorities of my country to converge towards the elaboration of a response plan that aligns humanitarian response, development activities, peacebuilding, and national cohesion for the benefit of affected populations,” she added that the populations in refugee hosting areas also deserve consideration in responses to better withstand shocks.
Minister Fatimé Boukar Kossei calls on all stakeholders to support advocacy efforts to strengthen emergency, development, and peacebuilding actions.
For the Overview of Needs and Humanitarian Response Plan 2024, the various partners will need 1.125 billion dollars to strengthen emergency assistance to targeted individuals.
